Our Client's Infrastructure and Operations team architects, implements, and supports technology to support all business efforts. The Platform Engineering team works closely with Product Managers and business partners to deliver technically-sound, repeatable, and highly-automated systems built on Microsoft technology.

The Manager, Microsoft Platform Engineering will be responsible for the daily operations and tactical leadership of the entire Microsoft powered portfolio including Windows Servers and Desktops, Azure, M365, ActiveDirectory and related services, SharePoint, Teams, etc. The manager's core focus will be on meeting the computing needs supporting business operations.

The role is hands-on and requires expert level experience of adopting Microsoft technologies within a mid-size organization.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on all Microsoft related technologies. Take technical lead during planning, design, and implementation stages. Actively participate in the Pre-plan/Procurement/Plan/Implementation and Support of large scale enterprise infrastructure
  • Lead team of seven systems and desktop engineers focused on adopting Microsoft technologies for the workplace (staff and customer facing)
  • Mature Microsoft management capabilities through development of existing team members while providing hands-on operational support as necessary
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute in tight collaboration with Product Managers; ensure optimal use of available resources to meet business demands
  • Analyze technical needs and present business cases to win support for decisions
  • Deep knowledge and working experience with core infrastructure technologies including DNS, DHCP, Version Control, Configuration Management, Continuous Integration, etc
  • Collaborate with IT teams and business units to deliver high quality technology platforms, determine needs/requirements, and ensure project success
  • Oversee Azure architecture with appropriate stakeholders and ensure it meets modern infrastructure design principles
  • Ensure appropriate monitoring of Microsoft systems, that sound backup practices are in place, and applicable systems are highly-available
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and existing technology to identify opportunities for improvement


Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or strong combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience implementing large scale compute platforms and support infrastructures
  • Minimum of 5 years leading a team of more than 5 people
  • Minimum of 5 years working directly with Microsoft representatives (TAM, SE, Sales, etc.)
  • Minimum of 3 years supporting M365; preferably with migration experience


Required Skills

  • Deep hands-on technical experience with a broad set of Microsoft products, especially Windows Servers and Desktops, AD, AzureAD, SCOM, Exchange, and M365. Knowledge, awareness, and understanding of other products in the Microsoft suite
  • Experience migrating from on-premises non-microsoft productivity suite to M365
  • Experience implementing hybrid identify stores (AD/AzureAD)
  • Experience working with Microsoft TAMs and support structure
  • Knowledge of underlying infrastructure components, including DHCP, DNP, Proxies, and Networking concepts (ACLs, Firewall, Load Balancing)
  • Led teams consisting of various levels of skill-sets from Jr. to Senior Level engineers
  • Proven ability to develop technical requirements and specifications through collaboration with technical and non-technical clients/stakeholders and Senior Management, from concept through the entire lifecycle
  • Familiarity with architecture concepts, deploying, and supporting highly-available infrastructure to support a large (8,000+ end points) end-user community using Microsoft platform
  • Understanding and hands-on experience centrally managing applications (packaging and deployment)
  • Practical, hands-on, knowledge of common system operations best practices and tool sets as it relates to hardware management, automation, monitoring, business continuity/disaster recovery, and reporting
  • Proven ability to develop technical requirements and specifications through collaboration with technical and non-technical clients/stakeholders
