Senior Electrical Equipment Design Engineer

Would you like to join a growing multi-disciplinary team within the Engineering Projects Group (EPG)? EPG is part of Engineering & Digital Services, within the wider Maritime Services business and is currently expanding to meet the demands of a variety of engineering projects. We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Electrical Equipment Design Engineer at our site in Portsmouth Naval Base.

As a Senior Electrical Equipment Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of electrical aspects of combat and automation system products, including design and design development tasks in respect of both new products and technology insertion into legacy products.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to deliver complex electrical product solutions to high engineering standards across the whole engineering life cycle and will provide a significant opportunity to develop skills in critical electrical system design as well as wider opportunities within BAE Systems.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Electrical Equipment Design Engineer will involve:

Responsibility of electrical aspects of combat system hardware design

Integration of practical electrical, combat and automation product solutions

Requirement analysis and derivation at sub-system and product level, in addition to defining and capturing qualification statements/cases against requirements

Providing technical guidance on areas of specific expertise within the team

Detailed electrical engineering design of combat and automation system products

Carrying out electrical engineering design tasks to include feasibility studies, research, design, development and post design services, involving the full Engineering Lifecycle, to meet defined project and business requirements

Specifying the components, layouts, integration of functional elements to meet performance requirements for all aspects of electrical product design

Substantiation of the functional, EMC and electrical protection of the designed product within its operating environment

Writing of verification and test procedures proving compliance for product acceptance

Your skills and qualifications:

Relevant engineering qualifications

Working towards (or willing to work towards) a professional registration

Experienced engineer with substantial electrical development experience in the packaging of electrical rack-mounted type products

Experience of operating in a defence or high safety integrity environment

Proven experience of relevant industry standards

Awareness with all phases of the engineering lifecycle and configuration control systems

Strong stakeholder management skills at all levels
