The Advanced Engineering department resides in the Charter Technical Engineering Center (CTEC) facilities in Englewood, CO and oversees the design and architecture of Charter's multi-billion dollar network infrastructure. We investigate, select, develop, and integrate technologies and solutions that meet the needs of the company for short, medium and long term initiatives. This includes the delivery of the technology plan and future architecture for Voice, Video, Data, Optical, Commercial, Cloud, CPE, Network and Access.
Responsible for developing and supporting video delivery engineering activities with a focus on VOD. The areas of work include content ingest, distribution, ad insertion, and streaming aspects associated with multiple video back offices. Works with vendors, product, operation, lab teams and advises team leaders.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
? Principal Engineer responsible for integrating, testing and qualifying new products and systems for video content ingest, storage, ad insertion, and streaming that work in a centralized way across a network-based, modular platform.
? Duties include working with a team of advanced engineers whom support the development, integration, test, and troubleshooting of various technologies which support Charter's digital headend systems, IP networks, video on demand (VOD) for set-top/mobile/web video delivery for production deployment and engineering labs.
? Must have working knowledge in the following areas: File Video Workflow, Content Management Systems (CMS), Metadata, OTT, Video Encoding, CDN, IP networking, Session/Resource Management, Stream Control and multiscreen video.
? Must be familiar with one or more of the Video Back Offices like Arris CMM, Ericsson MDMS, Charter MBO deployed with CDNs, Cisco and Arris Head-ends etc.
? Support the testing of new technologies and provide implementation and design documentation. Use network design software like Visio and document procedures using tools such as Jira and Confluence.
? Strong inquisitive nature and ability to work well with vendors and internal stakeholders to qualify solutions in production deployment and engineering labs.
? Work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Project Management, Content and Operations teams.
? The candidate should have software development process experience to meet occasional needs for coding test harnesses, troubleshooting tools etc.
? Should have working knowledge with modern service delivery networks ? HFC, IP Networking, DOCSIS, Transport, infrastructure monitoring solutions (ELK, Splunk, Nagios), MPEG, VOD protocols like Cable Labs, ISA, DSM-CC, LSCP, RTSP etc.
? Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
? Knowledge in TCP/IP, OSI Model, network design, architecture, topology, protocols, switching, routing, security and load balancing.
? Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience
