Network connectivity is essential to Commonwealth's ability to deliver indispensable service. Because we rely on it to service more than 2,000 advisors and their customers, our network must maintain the highest levels of security, performance, and uptime. As a network engineer, you will be relied upon for the architecture, engineering, and oversight of the company's entire network, including locations in Waltham, Massachusetts, and San Diego, California.

Do you have extensive experience designing and maintaining a robust network with gear from Cisco, Aruba, Check Point, Palo Alto, and Infoblox? Do you have a successful history of working and partnering with vendors? If so, we want to hear from you. Our ideal candidate will possess a decade or more of network engineering experience, as well as excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative spirit.

Key Responsibilities

Designing and implementing highly available network solutions and improving the efficiency of current networks across several locations

Maintaining load-balancing solutions and firewall policy

Managing wired and wireless network infrastructure

Performing network maintenance outside of business hours

Acting as primary on-call engineer, providing 24/7 response to network outages

Communicating, tracking, and resolving complex network issues in a timely fashion

Architecting new environments and providing clear documentation of each piece

Working with other technology groups to implement and support a variety of technical projects

Investigating faults in the network and updating network equipment to the latest firmware releases

Helping support other groups managing a site-to-site VPN for more than 1,900 small offices

Performing vulnerability remediation and working with our Information Security team to mitigate threats

Coordinating with managed service providers for enhanced support services

Maximizing network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting

Core Strengths

Expert-level knowledge and experience with Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols, including HSRP, VRRP, Spanning Tree, and VPC; designing and implementing dynamic routing solutions, such as BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF

Knowledge of cloud solutions, such as Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Teams, and Skype

Expert-level knowledge and experience maintaining Cisco switches, Palo Alto firewalls, and various Aruba and Infoblox solutions, as well as ClearPass and NAC

Experience with zScaler and SDWAN a plus

Proven ability to pay attention to detail and follow change management procedures

Experience configuring and supporting QoS over WAN connections

Proficiency with products and services from managed providers, such as Comcast, Crown Castle/Lightower, TierPoint, and Verizon

Experience troubleshooting VoIP and videoconferencing issues at the network level

Ability to work closely with others on technical and procedural topics

Experience collecting and analyzing packet captures using Wireshark

Strong multitasking skills

Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially with Visio diagrams and technical documentation

Additional Skills and Knowledge

10 or more years of network engineering experience

Industry certifications (e.g., CCIE, CCNP, CCDP, PCNSA, and PCNSE) a plus

Experience with Cisco IP phones

Knowledge and experience with monitoring tools

Experience with videoconferencing software and equipment, such as Zoom, Teams, and Vidyo

Scripting and automation experience a plus

Experience managing personnel a plus
