Job Description The Infrastructure Systems/VMware ESX Architect is a subject matter expert in the Systems Architecture and Operations group and is responsible for the design, implementation, and effective and efficient maintenance of related technologies. In addition, this individual has expert knowledge of Information Technology at large, with a firm understanding of related disciplines and how they inter operate. You will be responsible for leading design, implementation, and troubleshooting efforts and will be directly accountable for the results. The Infrastructure Architect's deep and broad knowledge enables a holistic understanding of the technology environment.
Serve as key subject matter expert in the field of VMware/ESX, VCenter and related virtualization technologies maintaining a deep understanding of the field and its industry direction.
VCenter and VM management - monitoring overall system wide operation, creating and provisioning ESX hosts to support Virtual Machines, investigating problems, managing VM resources, building clones, applying ESX patches etc.
Windows OS - monitoring, investigating problems, opening and managing tickets with vendors as needed, building and configuring new Windows systems - virtual and physical, provide simple active directory support (checking user / share permissions for troubleshooting, adding computers to the domain).
Building/replacing ESX hosts and patching Windows servers.
Working as a team, manage the incident queue and respond to support requests from various teams (app support, network, database, storage, occasional user assistance etc.).
Proactively develop and maintain strong knowledge of MFS information systems and their related components, and makes recommendations to improve the reliability, scalability, performance, or security of these systems as appropriate. This includes proactive performance tuning and capacity analysis to ensure MFS is maximizing its technology investments.
Leverage technology to automate manual tasks, and seeks to improve efficiency wherever practicable and appropriate.
Adhere to MFS Information Security controls, procedures, and standards.
Receive broad goals and overall objectives from management and proactively establish and implement the methods to attain them.
Lead projects and be directly accountable for meeting project objectives including timelines and budgeting.
Serve as mentor to other technical team members, and present technology presentations to IT and business line management as required.
Provide advanced troubleshooting of ESX, VCenter, VMs etc. technologies in use at MFS.
Create scripts for task automation and technology operations.
Evaluate and recommend upgrades to the infrastructure systems technologies mentioned above.
Research and implement industry best practices and recommend latest technologies for containerization, systems orchestration, cloud implementation etc.
Correlate technology advancements and implementation plans with business benefits.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related technical field. Master's degree or equivalent preferred.
Ten or more years of related Information Technology experience.
Experience with data replication technologies like VVR, Recoverpoint etc.
Knowledge of ESX hardware and VMWare scaling, sizing and design experience using tools like VMware vRealize, Turbonomic, Cloud Physics, HPE Oneview, RV Tools etc.
Strong technical background on VMware products such as Vsphere, VROPS, VRA, VRO, SRM, VUM.
Knowledge of VRA architecture and lifecycle management.
Experience with NSX, Dynamic routing, High Availability, firewall services and third party integration.
McAfee Antivirus administration experience.
Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
Proven ability to manage complex projects and related resources efficiently and to meet all project objectives.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with employees at all organizational levels through well-honed interpersonal, communication, negotiation, presentation and relationship building skills.
