Position Title: Fleet Mechanic I or II, full-time, year-round, benefited position
Position Summary: Performs preventative and routine maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, e.g., police vehicles, excavators, snowplows, dump trucks, sweepers mowers, 4wd trucks, ATV's and passenger vehicles; on a range of systems e.g., mechanical, electrical and hydraulic. Will assist with a variety of routine and special activities for the Public Works Streets Department. Other job-related duties as assigned.
Mechanic I: Requires HS Diploma or Equivalent and a minimum of 6 months - 2 years experience working as an equipment and/or vehicle mechanic or mechanic's helper or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Will train the right person. Performs general maintenance on automobiles and equipment. ASE Certifications or technical education preferred. Ability to obtain CDL within 3-6 months of hire date.
Mechanic II: In addition to requirements and duties for Mechanic I, the Mechanic II requires 2 years of technical training, a minimum of 3-5 years of experience, CDL and ASE certifications or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with loaders, backhoes, graders, bulldozers, tandem trucks and other equipment is helpful. Both Mechanic I and II positions require knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance, general construction practices, and standard safety practices. Prefer experience with oil and tire changes, skill using basic hand tools and operating lawn mowing and snow plowing equipment. Ability to be "On Call" during non-regular hours to address snowplowing, water leaks, etc. Ability to assist with snow-plow work shift at 2:00 a.m., as requested.
Mechanic I Hiring pay range: $22.07 - $26.48/hour, based on qualifications. The maximum of the pay range is $30.92/hourly. A hire rate over the hiring range may be considered based on candidate's qualifications and experience.
Mechanic II Hiring pay range: $25.44 $31.80/hour, based on qualifications. The maximum of the pay range is $38.17/hourly. A hire rate over the hiring range may be considered based on candidate's qualifications and experience.
