The art of meeting begins at the iconic Miami Beach Convention Center; where global business and creative collaboration get a spark of tropical inspiration. We are currently looking for a dynamic Event Intern! Interested candidates must be a Miami Beach Resident to qualify.
Nestled in the heart of Miami Beach, the state-of-the-art convention center offers flexible special event and exhibition spaces near beautiful beaches, fine dining and 5-star resorts. Under the direction of the Director of Events & Guest Services and/or Event Managers, the Event Intern will be working alongside a team of Event Services Department staff. The Event Intern will be assisting in the coordinating and managing of conventions, tradeshows and special events with the building staff and partners, to assure the proper set-up and smooth operation of events. The Event Intern will gain valuable hands-on experience in tradeshow operations, exhibitor management, event marketing & sales, and meeting planning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist Event Managers during all phases of event management for users and contractors of the Center for the acquiring and dissemination of event and facility related requirements and information.
Assists Event Managers in the receiving, assembling, and distribution of event information to the Center staff and works with staff to facilitate efficient and satisfactory completion of client requirements.
Works with Event Services Department staff to coordinate and utilize the event records management system (Ungerboeck) relating to all phases of event planning and operation.
Provides attendees, clients and other MBCC's staff great customer service and maintains a customer service attitude.
Assists Event Services Department staff on-floor management of Center event-related services, and ensures that all requirements are carried out according to the Show Manger's needs.
Assists Event Services Department staff with setting up and coordinating all primary and pre-event meetings with client team and Convention Center staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Required: Candidates must be a Miami Beach Resident to qualify.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Actively pursuing an undergraduate or a graduate degree at an accredited college or university, preferably in Hospitality Management, Event Management, or related fields.
Excellent telephone etiquette, professional demeanor and ability to screen calls diplomatically and effectively.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to take direction and execute independently
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Excellent customer service skills over the phone and in-person
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Ability to work with different cultural orientations and range of business, technology, government, and academia backgrounds
Great time management and project management skills
Ability to work long and irregular hours that may vary due to functions and may include days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and be internet proficient. Knowledge of event industry software, such as Concentric or Ungerboeck is a plus, but not required.
