Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer. Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe's growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms. In addition to the broad set of commercial projects that Ginkgo is developing, Ginkgo also rapidly adapted its platform to respond to COVID-19, working to optimize nucleic acid vaccine manufacturing, helping develop antibody therapeutics, and launching a testing business.To support this rapid growth, Ginkgo is seeking a highly motivated Category Lead to design and build Ginkgo's business services/corporate spend category from the ground up. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams across Ginkgo, you'll work to develop an in-depth understanding of Ginkgo's business needs to effectively execute sourcing strategies and deliver significant financial and operational results.As a senior member of Ginkgo's Procurement and Supply Chain Team, you'll leverage your strategic thinking and analytical skills with your financial expertise to help drive key decision-making and ensure that the team's short, medium, and long-term goals are achieved. With your passion for Ginkgo's mission and building something that matters, along with your ability to adapt and thrive in fast-paced environments, you'll be a critical contributor to the success of Ginkgo as a whole.ResponsibilitiesBuild Ginkgo's IT, HR, Real Estate and Facility Management, Travel, and Professional Services spend category from the ground up, ensuring that key products and services are available at the highest level of quality, efficiency, and cost.Develop overall category vision, strategy, priorities, and portfolio of projects, collaborating with relevant business stakeholders to ensure effective alignment.Design and implement an effective strategy for business services/corporate category-related spend areas, collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather business requirements and market insights that support key decisions.Support Make versus Buy decisions.Build effective spend management tools to drive the total cost of ownership.Develop a robust portfolio of sourcing projects to achieve year-over-year productivity and deliver cost savings targets.Ensure relevant customer-centric procurement KPIs are created, implemented, and tracked.Initiate, negotiate, and execute contracts and agreements for commercial terms, intellectual property, and confidentiality, working with our Legal Team to ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and procurement standards.Develop and manage key supplier relationships through appropriate programs (e.g. alliance/supplier relationship management) to enable innovation and cost reduction through mutual accountability and trust.Establish category and supplier management processes, driving the value messaging of and compliance with these processes across Ginkgo.Collaborate with our Finance Team to streamline and lead the team's budget/forecasting process as it relates to third-party spend, working to improve the efficiency and timeliness of our overall budget cycle.Desired Experience and Capabilities10+ years of procurement and sourcing experience; prior experience with biotech startups and/or pharmaceutical companies strongly preferredAt least 5 years of experience with Business Services/Corporate Category spend areasStrong leadership skills, with the ability to establish and execute new strategies and processesProven ability to manage negotiations, suppliers, and contractsHigh-level problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify, maintain, and utilize key metrics to make data-driven decisions and make continuous improvementsExceptional ability to build strong relationships, develop negotiation strategies, and influence technical, business, and operational decisionsStrong multitasking skills, with the ability to work on multiple, concurrent projects and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environmentExcellent verbal/written communication skills and attention to detail, with the ability to efficiently organize information, analyze large datasets, and present data in a clear and impactful mannerEnthusiasm about being a part of Ginkgo's missionTo learn more about Ginkgo, check out some recent press:Ginkgo Bioworks resizes the definition of going big in biotech, raising $2.5B in a record SPAC deal that weighs in with a whopping $15B-plus valuation (Endpoints News)Ginkgo Bioworks CEO on scaling up Covid-19 testing: 'If we try, we can win' (CNBC)Ginkgo raises $70 million to ramp up COVID-19 testing for employers, universities (Boston Globe)Ginkgo Bioworks Redirects Its Biotech Platform to Coronavirus (Wall Street Journal)Ginkgo Bioworks Provides Support on Process Optimization to Moderna for COVID-19 Response (PRNewswire)The Life Factory: Synthetic Organisms From This $1.4 Billion Startup Will Revolutionize Manufacturing (Forbes)Synthetic Bio Pioneer Ginkgo Raises $290 Million in New Funding (Bloomberg)Ginkgo Bioworks raises $350 million fund for biotech spinouts (Reuters)Can This Company Convince You to Love GMOs?
