Job Summary:
Applications/Structural Engineer is responsible for designing and tailoring shutter systems and other security- related products for specific customer applications. He/ she will be the key technical point person for architects and contractors on large projects, tailoring our products to meet key requirements for targeted growth applications. He / she works closely with manufacturing, customers, and regulatory bodies to plan, design, and launch new products for high-load structural applications (e.g., hurricane or high security).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interface with architects, contractors, and facilities managers on construction methods, materials, and legal or regulatory requirements of our products
  • Tailor / customize our product for specific customer applications, analyzing loads and mechanical product performance to ensure viable execution
  • Create layouts, detailed drawings and instructions for customers, contractors, and field installers on custom applications or strategic programs
  • Expand library of architectural / configuration / construction tools to increase product adoption across applications and markets
  • Optimize existing product configurations and tolerances to improve quality, installation, and other aspects of field performance
  • Review and approve designs for high load structural applications (hurricane) as needed

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Track record of integrating mechanical systems into buildings and other architectural structures (interior and exterior)
  • Strong project / program management capability and track record of costing/pricing analysis
  • Strong structural aptitude, problem solving ability and creativity
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines with minimal supervision, self-driven to meet commitments, handle multiple projects, highly organized and a strong customer service orientation
  • Detail-oriented, creative and have effective working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Ability to use tool room machinery (hand and power tools)
  • Ability to travel for field investigations (if required)
  • 5 years of experience in structural or architectural/applications engineering in building materials, construction, or related engineered products (new products or architectural solutions)
  • Experience integrating mechanical systems into buildings or architectural structures
  • Knowledge of extruded metals, hardware, construction methods and legal standards
  • Experience in mathematics, physics, measurement tools and tolerancing
  • Experience with rolling shutters, window treatments, door systems, or windows is a plus
  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with significant structural experience; PE license a plus
  • Proficiency with applicable software such as MSOffice
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Inventory (or equivalent)
